Company takes delivery of three Volvo FH 540 6x2 tractor units and an FMX 430 8x4 rigid concrete mixer

LONDON-based Quattro have taken delivery of four new vehicles from Volvo Trucks, the first of a total of eight units from the Swedish manufacturer due to arrive with the customer across the next 12 months.

Supplied by Guili Chemello, transport solutions executive at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre South & East, Quattro’s initial batch of new trucks consists of three Volvo FH 540 6x2 tractor units and an FMX 430 8x4 rigid concrete mixer. All replace units previously supplied by a rival marque.

Eamon O’Loughlin, Quattro’s managing director, said: ‘Though we have predominantly run another manufacturer on our fleet in recent years, whenever the time comes for a fleet refresh or expansion, we always make sure we do our due diligence on what products are out there in the market.

‘In the current climate, we found that Volvo offered the best balance of operational performance and cost-effectiveness.’

Quattro’s FH tractor units are each powered by a Euro-6 compliant Step E 540hp engine which delivers a maximum torque of 2,600Nm. They are driven via 12-speed automated I-Shift gearboxes, which constantly evaluate information regarding speed, weight, road grade and torque demand to apply precision to every shift.

To maximize driver comfort, the customer’s new trucks also benefit from full leather upholstery, a fridge/freezer, TV, and a microwave, while visibility is boosted via the inclusion of V-Shaped LED headlamps.

The FH tractor units will be paired with cement tankers, operating Monday to Friday and predominately deployed on regional work in the South East covering approximately 120,000km annually.

The Volvo FMX features a 430hp engine producing a peak torque of 2,050Nm in addition to a 12-speed I-Shift transmission. Mounted with a mixer body provided by Schwing Stetter, it will be deployed locally and is expected to clock up to 30,000km a year.

All four new units feature Side Collision Avoidance Support on both the driver and passenger side, Forward Collision Warning with Advanced Emergency Braking, and a Lane Keeping Support system to boost safety. Decked out in Quattro’s distinctive blue livery, all four trucks benefit from Alcoa Dura Bright alloy wheels.

Quattro – a multi-disciplined company with a portfolio of activities including road haulage, waste management, plant hire, materials supply including ready-mixed concrete, and recycling – are due to take delivery of three further Volvo FHs and an additional FMX in 2024.
