Proskills responds to government low-carbon programme
Sector Skills Council approves Low Carbon Construction Action Plan and its recommendation on skills development
LAST week Business and Enterprise Minister, Mark Prisk, launched the new Low Carbon Construction Action Plan, detailing the Government’s response to the recommendations made by the Innovation and Growth Team.

The Plan recognizes the importance of skills to the future of the construction sector, especially in adapting to the low-carbon agenda, and states that including the manufacturing supply chain in future plans will be vital.

Mark Prisk said: ‘Through this joint government and industry action plan we are making a clear commitment to the low-carbon transition which will create the certainty needed for construction companies to invest in essential new skills, processes and products.’
Proskills represents the skills needs of manufacturing companies in the construction supply chain, and is a key member of the Built Environment Skills Alliance (BESA) – a group of SSCs and other bodies that provides a strategic voice on the collective and shared skills agenda across the whole-built environment sector.
Responding to the low-carbon programme Terry Watts, CEO of Proskills, said: “We are delighted that the Government is taking the same approach as BESA, and is encouraging closer working between manufacturers and the companies that use their products. This sort of strategic approach is the best way to ensure that companies have the skills they need to help to hit the Government’s low carbon targets, and will help to provide the stability needed to generate further investment and growth.’
