Proskills Awards to highlight importance of extractive industries

Extractive and minerals processing industry well represented among shortlist of finalists

THE extractive and minerals processing industry will be well represented among the finalists at the 2011 Proskills Awards Ceremony, which will take place at Alton Towers on Thursday 3 November.

The Awards will celebrate the achievements of people working in the process and manufacturing sector, and highlight the sector’s wider commercial importance.

Among the finalists from the extractive and minerals processing industries will be: Advanced/Modern Apprentice of the Year: Terri-Ann Westerman from UK Coal Mining Ltd); and Outstanding Employer of the Year: Aggregate Industries.

‘Companies know the importance of investing in the skills of their workforce and finding innovative new ways of working that will improve efficiency and productivity,’ said Proskills’ extractive and minerals processing industries lead, Jonathan Ledger.

‘The extractive and minerals processing industries as a whole have shown an openness to change and innovation that is a real asset in the modern commercial climate, where companies need to adapt rapidly to emerging demands.

‘The entries have revealed the dedication, skill and technical knowledge of people working in the industry, as well as the commitment of employers to their staff’s development, qualities which will be showcased at the awards ceremony.’
