Powerscreen launch dual-power mobile screens

POWERSCREEN have introduced dual power to their mobile screen range, giving users the choice of either diesel or electric power.

According to the company, the addition of an electric/hydraulic drive system provides the flexibility to address a number of challenges and opportunities, such as in central Europe where electricity is cheaper than diesel fuel, and in Russia and parts of the US where only electricity is permitted on sites.

Once positioned on site, the mobile screen unit can be quickly and easily connected to an external electricity source and switched to operate on electricity, resulting in zero emissions.

Powerscreen say their dual-power screens retain all the usual benefits of a mobile machine but, by using electricity rather than diesel, can reduce diesel fuel consumption and operating costs, and, depending on set-up, may even reduce machine downtime due to reduced refuelling and engine servicing requirements.

Dual power is said to be particularly suitable for sites where: only electricity is permitted; electricity is freely available or generated on site; electricity is preferred over diesel fuel; electricity is cheaper than diesel fuel; diesel fumes are not permitted, eg underground; or where environmental, legislative and/or noise constraints dictate.

In addition, in the event of an electricity shortage/power outage, the dual-power screen can continue to run on diesel fuel, or vice versa.
