End of an era – Jacqueline O’Donovan leaves her role as md of O’Donovan Waste

Jacqueline O’Donovan leaves her position after 36 years in charge of one of London’s leading waste-recycling firms

RECYCLING industry champion Jacqueline O’Donovan has stepped down as managing director of O’Donovan Waste Disposal, having led the business since the age of 19 years old.

During Ms O’Donovan’s time at the helm, she was instrumental in improving all aspects of safety and sustainability, not to mention being a trailblazer and disrupter in the waste, transport, and construction sectors, making best practices a minimum and going above and beyond the norm.

As Ms O’Donovan moves into an exciting new chapter of her career, and leaves O’Donovan Waste in the very capable hands of Sortera, who acquired the business in 2022, she is confident that the recycling company will continue its development path, with an implementation of new services and an even stronger reputation among both customers and employees.

Mark McCleery, managing director of the Sortera UK, commented: ‘I am excited with what we plan to achieve in 2024 and beyond, with our aim of being the partner of choice in respect of sustainable construction. O’Donovan Waste Disposal is clearly an industry leader and along with the second acquisition of GBN (in mid-2023), we have secured fantastic businesses to build upon.’

Ms O’Donovan added: ‘I leave knowing that I have handed over the baton to Mark McCleery after 36 years knowing that our family business is left in capable hands with quality trained staff all round. I am super excited to move into different industries to see what else I can turn my hand to. I also have no intention of abandoning the waste industry as it has been my love for 36 years.’
