Aggregates sector mourns the passing of IQ Fellow and great friend of the industry

HUGO Pettingell, founder and director of SenX Ltd and a great friend of the aggregates industry, sadly passed away last month. An expert in quarry process analysis and optimization, with a particular interest in cutting-edge sand manufacturing technology, he was a qualified mining engineer and Fellow of the Institute of Quarrying. Hugo’s 40+ years in the industry took him all over the world working for multinational companies such as Aggregate Industries, HeidelbergCement, Lafarge and Svedala. During a three-year consultancy to a major Japanese company, he was involved in the introduction of innovative sand-making and concrete recycling technology to the European market. He was also extensively involved in training, resolving disputes, and setting and achieving financial targets within the industry.

As the founder/director of SenX Ltd, an independent team of professionals providing services to the aggregates industry, Hugo’s areas of expertise included sand manufacture, VSI crushing, Aggflow analysis and C2C (total recovery) concrete recycling, and his work involved project management, fault- and bottleneck-finding and advising on process optimization to suit changing market demands. When not working, Hugo spent his time fishing, rebuilding a couple of classic Riley cars and restoring his fleet of ‘scruffy’ boats.
