NSSGA receives national grassroots recognition

National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association awarded for efforts to involve members in federal policymaking

THE US’s National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) has received an award in recognition of its efforts to involve its members in federal policymaking.

The Showalter Group Political Involvement Program Innovation Award recognizes NSSGA’s year-long ‘Driving It Home 2015’ initiative.

The initiative, powered by NSSGA’s Aggregates in Action grassroots programme and reinvigorated website, was focused on educating members of Congress on the value of the aggregates industry and advancing a well-funded, multi-year surface transportation reauthorization.

President Obama signed a long-term transportation bill into law on 4 December 2015.

In addition, Driving It Home encouraged grassroots volunteers to oppose the Environmental Protection Agency’s controversial Waters of the US rule.

‘Receiving the Showalter Group Political Involvement Program Innovation Award would not have been possible without the actions and dedication of our many advocates at the grassroots level,’ said Michael W. Johnson, president and chief executive officer of the NSSGA.

‘We proudly accept this distinction on behalf of our members who truly understand the importance of answering the call to action and that they really are their own best advocates.’

The Showalter Group Political Involvement Program Innovation Award is the US’s longest-running and most comprehensive assessment of political involvement programme innovations.

Over 14 years, past award winners have included Southwest Airlines, Caterpillar, the National Association of Manufacturers and the National Federation of Independent Business.
