New Volvo machines for Cotswold Recycling

Volvo EC250E excavator

Bristol-based company takes delivery of EC250E and EC220E excavators

COTSWOLD Recycling Co. Ltd have expanded their growing mobile plant fleet of Volvos with the addition of a new 22-tonne EC220E excavator and a larger 25-tonne EC250E model.

According to Richard Cooper, managing director of Cotswold Recycling, the proven quality and reliability of the firm’s older Volvo machines – along with first-class aftersales support and strong residual values – were key contributing factors in purchasing the latest excavators.

‘We really cannot fault Volvo for their backup and service, the productivity of their excavators, good fuel economy and high residual values,’ commented Mr Cooper. ‘In addition, it’s important our operators have a say in what we invest in and they certainly appreciate the comfort and performance of the Volvo machines. Ultimately, the package on offer made choosing the new EC220E and EC250E units an easy decision.’

The EC220E excavator is powered by a Volvo six-cylinder Tier IV Final engine developing 174hp, while the EC250E model is equipped with an eight-cylinder engine providing 213hp. Operators can choose the best work mode for the task at hand, ensuring optimum performance and fuel efficiency. Modes include: I (idle); F (fine), G (general); H (heavy); or P-power, with both machines automatically setting the appropriate engine speed for the selected work mode.

There is also an Eco mode feature that is available in G, H or P mode. Pump flow is controlled for combined digging and swinging operations to reduce the flow loss through the overload relief valves, while maintaining digging power and maximum swing torque. Eco mode provides better fuel efficiency without loss of performance in most operating conditions.

Both machines have been supplied to Cotswold Recycling with full ‘boxing ring’ style hand rails mounted on the superstructure, together with standard hammer shear hydraulics and optional X3 rotation circuits.

‘We find the EC220E ideal for loading screens and crushers whilst the larger EC250E is normally deployed for pulveriser and shear work. It’s a solid stable machine and optimised for this type of work,’ said Mr Cooper.

Monitoring each machine’s vital data (eg fuel consumption, idle time etc.) and location is made easy, thanks to Volvo’s CareTrack telematics system which helps reduce the cost of ownership and maximizes equipment utilization.
