New spherical roller bearings from NSK

NSK have unveiled a new line of sealed clean spherical roller bearings (SRBs) suitable for use in the quarrying and construction industries. Combining high levels of ingress protection and operating reliability with reduced maintenance, the SRBs, say NSK, can help extend equipment life in demanding environments, where contamination or lubricant loss may cause premature bearing failure.

The roller bearings are equipped with spring-loaded nitrile rubber seals, which have peripheral beads to prevent them from being separated from the bearings. As well as keeping contaminants out, the seals offer the important function of keeping lubricants in.

The rubber seal includes Emalube 8030, a special grease which is said to offer excellent performance against heat and pressure, preventing lubricants from leaking. Maintenance and lubricant costs are, therefore, reduced and a cleaner eco-friendly environment is provided, as a result of less grease degradation.

The NSK SRB is manufactured from super-clean vacuum-de-gassed steel and features symmetrical rollers, which provide uniform contact with the bearing raceways. This prevents the usual edge loads between the rollers and raceway surfaces under heavy load conditions.

In addition, the bearing delivers smooth axial movement as a result of a special chamfer and design improvements on the periphery of the raceways. The latest SRBs are available in a wide range of sizes, from 50mm internal diameter (ID) to 130mm ID, and have the same capacities and ISO dimensions as standard SRBs.
