New national voice for RIGS

A new national geological conservation movement has been formed following a three-day conference attended by 30 regional RIGS (regionally important geological and geomorphological sites) groups.

The Association of UK RIGS Groups has pledged to encourage the appreciation, conservation and promotion of RIGS sites for education and public benefit. It will also provide the means of developing a UK-wide perspective regarding sites and the benefits of central fundraising and lobbying activities.

The Royal Society for Nature Conservation, utilizing funding from the Hanson Environment Fund, currently provides a central office and administrative support for the Association.
