New loading shovel for Ennstone Breedon

Ennstone Breedon have taken delivery of a new Volvo L150D loading shovel for rehandling and stocking-out duties at their Cloud Hill Quarry.

The L150D is powered by a 10-litre low-emission Volvo engine, developing 253hp with a maximum engine torque at only 1,100 rev/min, and complies with EU noise regulations up to 2006. Equipped with a 3.8m3 straight-lipped bucket with edge savers, the 23-tonne loader has an actual capacity of 4m3 due to the characteristics of the patented TP linkage and bucket roll-back angle. The full-turn tip load at 40° is 15,500kg, breakout force is 184.8kN and load-over-height with the bucket tipped at 45° is 2.94m.

Commenting on the purchase, Terry Lacey, quarry manager at Cloud Hill, said: ‘Our new L150D has come in to replace two Volvo shovels — an L120 and an L160 — that we bought back in 1989. In that time the L120 notched up 29,000h without the engine needing an overhaul although we did change the transmission once. Both the L120 and L160 gave us consistently high availability throughout their life. Consequently, with that sort of reliability, we didn’t need to worry about a suitable replacement.’

Volvo also provide on-site operator familiarization, given by one of their qualified demonstrators. All operational and safety aspects of the machine are described in detail when the machine is delivered.
