New Horizons for contract crushers

Many contract crushing companies have responded to increasing customer demand for tighter product specifications and greater production by purchasing high-throughput crushing plants only to find that the control they are able to exercise over the process is limited by insufficient screening capacity.

To overcome this difficulty, Manchester-based BMW Construction Ltd and R.L. Taylor Crushing & Screening, located in Okehampton, Devon, have each recently taken delivery of an Aughey Horizon A8 screening plant.

At Scout Moor Quarry, near Ramsbottom, Lancashire, BMW have increased the throughput of their Metso LT125 jaw crusher by more than 100 tonnes/h by replacing their previous mobile 20ft x 5ft inclined screen with the Horizon A8.

Bill Wheale, owner of BMW, said: ‘We were looking for an extra-strong screening plant that would provide large screening capacity and could withstand the constant rigours of working in crushed stone. After seeing the Aughey unit working in quarries in Ireland there was no doubt that it could handle big tonnages and that it was built for quarry work.’

Meanwhile, at Hanson Aggregates’ Trusham Quarry, Devon, where R.L. Taylor are working, their new A8 machine has increased production by 30% and reduced the recirculating load to the crusher by 25%.

The Horizon A8 produces three grades of material and is capable of handling up to 800 tonnes/h. Key features of the plant include: a heavy-duty apron feeder; a 16ft x 5ft Cedarapids triple-shaft horizontal screen offering the ability to fine-tune stroke angle, amplitude and speed; a Caterpillar 160kW diesel/hydraulic power unit; a remote-control track system; and on-board folding conveyors. Aughey Plant say an A4 model is also available that can produce five grades of material.
