New fully rugged notebook from GETAC

SPECIALIST mobile computer manufacturers GETAC Inc. have recently unveiled their new B300 fully rugged notebook, which features an extensive list of security, power and connectivity options, and has been designed to be fully customizable to fulfil specific requirements.

The new B300 is also the first fully rugged notebook to include the latest development in GETAC’s sunlight readable technology, which allows for continuous use in extremely bright outdoor environments by intensifying the visibility of the B300’s LCD display.

The B300 also has an Auto Brightness Adjustment feature as standard, to enhance power-management efficiency. A light sensor designed to detect ambient lighting conditions adjusts the B300 panel’s brightness automatically, thereby conserving battery power. With its onboard nine-cell battery, the B300 offers a 12h battery life, making it suitable for use in environments where a power source is unavailable and for extended use. The notebook can also be upgraded to include a secondary battery pack.

Designed for use in inhospitable environments and harsh weather conditions, the B300 features a tough magnesium alloy case, which is resilient to small drops and hard knocks, and a shock-mounted hard disk drive (HDD), which protects against data loss should unexpected drops, vibration or shocks occur. The notebook is IP54 compliant and thus equipped with sealed I/O caps and doors to prevent solid particles and moisture, such as dust, rain and spillages, from entering the unit.

The B300 also features a wide range of security features to ensure data integrity remains intact in the event of theft, hacking or accidental damage. These include: a biometric fingerprint reader; a secure and reliable authentication device for log-in or to access sensitive information; password security options for supervisors/users that will lock the HDD if an unauthorized user attempts to enter the system; and the option to include a Smart Card reader.

GETAC have also designed the B300 to include a variety of wireless capabilities to meet communication requirements while on the move. The unit supports 802.11a/g/n WLAN technology and Bluetooth V2.0 as standard, and GPRS/EV-DO/HSPDA is available as an upgrade. For effective connectivity, the B300 includes an array of I/O ports, including two RS-232 serial ports, allowing several devices to be connected simultaneously.
