New earthmover commercial director at Michelin

Mike Wilson appointed to lead earthmoving and industrial operations in UK and Ireland

MICHELIN, one of the world’s leading tyre manufacturers, have announced the appointment of Mike Wilson as the new commercial director of their earthmover and industrial operations in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

He will spearhead a team of three experienced key account managers and six regional earthmover and industrial specialists. In addition, Mr Wilson will work closely with construction equipment manufacturers Caterpillar and JCB, for whom Michelin are a tier-one supplier.

Mr Wilson joined Michelin in 1974 as a sales representative. After eight years based in Manchester he progressed to the role of sales manager in Ireland, before returning to the UK and holding a number of posts including sales manager for government contracts followed by a similar position within the company’s mileage contracts division.

Since 1995 Mr Wilson has been responsible for the sales and marketing of all Michelin retread tyre products, and for the last four years has managed the company’s End of Life Tyres programme.

‘My new position encompasses an extensive portfolio – from Michelin tyres for materials handling equipment to large earthmover tyres for use in heavy-duty quarry operations,’ commented Mr Wilson.

‘It’s also a very interesting time to be transferring to this side of the business. Despite the economic climate, worldwide demand for earthmover tyres is rising so we have to manage our supply accordingly. One of my top priorities is to establish a wider footprint for the sale of Michelin industrial and earthmover products across the UK and Ireland.’
