New crusher backing compound cuts costs

Crushers-UK and CTA launch new polyurethane backing compound for cone crushers

TWO Midlands-based companies have launched a new polyurethane crusher backing compound which, they say, will deliver significant cost savings to the quarrying and mining industries worldwide.

Developed by Tamworth-based Crushers-UK and Central Tapes and Adhesives (CTA) from Sutton Coldfield, the non-flammable product is said to offer many advantages, including fewer health and safety issues and reduced transport costs, compared with epoxy-based products.

‘This polyurethane formulation is similar to existing products in the marketplace. However, our product requires no pre-heating in cold conditions and is easily mixable. Additionally, it offers good compressive and flexural strength, with minimal shrinkage,’ explained Mark Plimmer, managing director of CTA.

‘Low viscosity means it is easy to mix and pour and ensures visual confirmation of the mixed product and free flow into the smallest cavities and contours of manganese steel,’ he added.

The packaging format will be familiar to service engineers. The product comes in 10kg kits, comprising part A in a lever-latch metal pail and part B in a plastic poly bottle, and is available from stock in minimum order quantities of five kits.

‘The crusher backing protects against impact and shock vibrations, and extends the life of machinery and equipment, as well as boosting productivity. It is easily applied by personnel operating machinery, with minimal training, and offers maximum savings on labour,’ continued Mr Plimmer.

Greg Shipley, design director at Crushers-UK, commented: ‘The crusher backing has been specifically manufactured for the quarrying, demolition and recycling industries. It will offer substantial cost reductions and will be a valuable new product within the Crushers-UK range.’
