New BIM appointment at Aggregate Industries

Adam Cox

Company builds on its Building Information Modelling proposition with appointment of new technical assistant

AS part of a concerted focus on expanding their Building Information Modelling (BIM) proposition, Aggregate Industries have appointed a new BIM and computer-aided design (CAD) technical assistant to enhance their current offering while also providing expert consultancy to clients.

Adam Cox has joined the business in the newly created position, bringing with him considerable experience of the design processes involved in modern development, and the associated software, having previously worked as a CAD technician for leading piling and foundation engineers Roger Bullivant.

In his new role, Mr Cox will oversee the provision of an in-house CAD design consultancy and support BIM project co-ordination with customers, while also providing internal BIM support across the entire business through regular training, updates and communications.

In addition, he will assume responsibility for the ongoing development and maintenance of Aggregate Industries’ BIM models and product data templates, with a view to expanding the 200 currently available up to 500 by the end of the year and to 2,000 in due course.

Mr Cox, who is part of the Aggregate Industries Innovation Team, has a BSc (Hons) in Architectural Technology and Digital Innovation from the University of Derby, as well as a BTEC National Diploma in Construction.

Richard Wilks, head of innovation at Aggregate Industries, commented: ‘Since coming into effect as a mandate for public projects just two years ago, BIM level 2 is having an increasing effect on modern construction practice across many sectors, providing benefits to clients and customers that include a higher level of service, reduced waste, better co-ordination and efficiencies in the supply chain, together with much improved asset management.

‘Aligned to this, Aggregate Industries are now providing data-capture facilities on many of their asphalt contracting services on larger projects. This service, which can be fed into a client’s BIM model, provides accurate data of the product as laid, including temperature, humidity and full weather conditions, with the kit on site being linked to a GPS positioning system. We are also looking to include asphalt product data templates within our overall BIM product portfolio.

‘Ultimately, our objective is to expand our BIM capabilities in order to not only offer the most extensive catalogue on the market, and the technical support behind it, but by ensuring it is ingrained in our very culture. Adam’s role is integral to this and with his skills and experience we are confident we can continue to lead the way when it comes to unlocking the best of BIM in construction materials supply.’

Commenting on his new role, Mr Cox (pictured) added: ‘Having long recognized Aggregate Industries as one of the industry leaders during my time in construction, it is great to be joining the team. It’s an incredibly exciting time for BIM and I’m very passionate about helping to drive the business’ offering forward over the coming months.’
