Nearly 550 precast manufacturers remain in sector

Precast concrete products industry report

BDS Marketing Research publish latest review of precast concrete products industry

IN their latest review of the industry, BDS Marketing Research Ltd have identified 548 manufacturers of precast concrete products in the sector. This is around 100 less plants than were in the industry at the start of the recession in 2008.

However, despite the recovery in markets, most manufacturers appear satisfied that their current capacity will meet future market demand.

‘Over the past year, we have picked up only 10 planning consents for new concrete products facilities,’ commented report author Andy Sales. ‘Most of these referred to building blocks, where suppliers are struggling to cope with demand.

‘Elsewhere, we are aware of proposals to extend works producing concrete pipes, flooring, piles and beams, but that’s all.’

Details of all precast works in Great Britain and Northern Ireland are contained in the new ‘BDS Directory of Concrete Products 2016’.

‘This is the only source of information on all concrete products works in the country’ said Mr Sales.

As well as plant names and addresses, the Directory includes details of 524 industry contacts responsible for the purchase of plant, equipment and services.

Companies listed include major national businesses, such as Tarmac, Marshalls and Forterra, as well as smaller local companies supplying a limited range of products.

BDS say the report will be of interest to all companies in the sector as well as suppliers of plant and equipment, and others considering investment in the sector.
