More unofficial machines imported into Ireland

FOLLOWING the news last week of the unauthorized importation of 24 Doosan hydraulic excavators into Ireland, Hyundai Heavy Industries Europe (HHIE) say they too have established that a number of unofficial Hyundai machines have been imported into Northern Ireland.

HHIE say they wish to advise potential customers that the 16 excavators in question are not CE compliant as they were manufactured for markets outside the EU and, therefore, do not have the specification necessary to comply with legislation for machines of this type within Europe.

Among the issues impacting on non-compliance of the machines are: the absence of European noise-suppression specifications, Tier III emission-compliant engines and various safety valves, all of which are necessary to comply with EU legislation; together the lack of a pre-heating systems for cold weather operations; joystick levers that do not conform to the European ISO pattern; and the absence of English operator manuals.

HHIE also warn of potential health and safety liability for those operating non-compliant machines, and say there may be insurance issues relating to machines that do not comply with European legislation. As a result, the company say they will not provide a warranty for the machines, and will not take responsibility for any health and safety issues relating to the operation of these machines within the EU.

According to HHIE, the machines have been offered for sale on www.euroauctions.com and at the premises of Londonderry-based Millar Tractors.

Hyundai have issued a list of model/serial numbers of the 16 machines in question (see below) and say they will not hesitate to use all the court remedies available to them to prevent any sales of machines which infringe their trade mark rights, anywhere in Europe.
