Minerals extraction and archaeology
            IN 2008 the Minerals & Historic Environment Forum produced a best practice guide for dealing with archaeological remains as part of mineral development within the planning process.
The guide seeks to promote good practice nationally and is designed to be of use to all stakeholders in the process.
This year the Mineral Industry Research Organisation (MIRO) is co-ordinating a series of four one-day workshops, organized by the Minerals & Historic Environment Forum, to provide information on the background to the guide and training in using it.
The free workshops, which are being sponsored by English Heritage through Defra and the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund, will run from 10.00am to 4.00pm at the following venues during September and October 2010:
