Metso unveil next-generation Lokotracks

The latest additions to the Metso Lokotrack series – the LT106 tracked jaw plant and ST2.4 mobile screen – combine maximum crushing and screening efficiency with low fuel consumption and minimum impact on the environment.

Both plants are based on nearly 30 years of constant product development, combining field-proven technology with the latest processing innovations and environmentally friendly features.

Equipped with a Tier 4/Tier 3 engine module, improved hydraulic system and new hardware design, the Lokotrack LT106 is said to consume up to 20% less fuel.

‘Today, with rising energy prices, fuel economy is becoming more crucial for cost-effective crushing contracting,’ said Jouni Hulttinen, product manager for the Lokotrack LT106. ‘During the design of the LT106, special attention was paid to its overall fuel economy. The field tests show that the targeted savings in fuel have been well reached.’

The Lokotrack LT106 is built around the proven C106 jaw crusher featuring a new analog material sensor for continuous choked feed and ‘active setting control’ for the safe crushing of recycled materials and slag. The Metso C106 has a large feed opening of 1,060mm x 700mm and a strong cavity cross- section, ensuring a high reduction ratio.

The IC700 automation control system has an easy-to-use colour display, helping to make the crushing process simple. New design features, such as engine and flywheel composite covers, together with spacious service platforms and general excellent accessibility, make daily operations safe and easy.

The Lokotrack LT106 is powered by a new, fuel-efficient Catepillar C9.3 Tier 4 engine (300hp) with hydraulic drive to ensure trouble-free operation and to allow the direction of the crusher to be changed in the event of a blockage. The mobile crushing plant can be fine-tuned to suit a particular application by selecting the desired options, from a long main conveyor, hammer and boom to complete recycling equipment, magnet, protection plates under the crusher and steel-reinforced main conveyor.

Metso’s latest Lokotrack ST2.4 mobile screen combines high screening capacity with low fuel consumption. This user-friendly, economical combination has been achieved thanks to the optimized hydraulic design and state-of-the-art process automation.

The ST2.4 screen is designed to accurately classify any feed material, from pre-screening of the coarsest gravel to fine classifying and processing of natural sands or any demanding recycled materials. With an efficient two-stage screen, Metso say customers can produce three clean end-product sizes in a single process.

Effective material flow and the use of high-quality components help ensure the Lokotrack ST2.4 offers the lowest cost per tonne produced in its size class, through improved fuel economy, high capacity and lower operating costs.

‘We believe that the Lokotrack ST2.4 sets a new standard in real mobility,’ said Kimmo Anttila, product manager for Metso mobile screens. ‘The screen is designed for fast unit set-up from trailer to screening in minutes. All the conveyors are folded hydraulically and secured mechanically. Operators just set up the screen angle, lift the feeder up and start screening. This makes any service, from cleaning to changing the screen mesh, easier and a lot safer.’

The ST2.4 mobile screen can be equipped with a variety of screen media, including steel meshes and Trellex rubber and polyurethane materials. Powered by a Cat C4.4 diesel engine (102hp), the ST2.4 screen box measures 1.5m x 3.6m and the machine itself features 14.2m x 3.4m x 2.9m transport dimensions.

Other newly launched products from Metso include the Nordberg C120 jaw crusher and Lokotrack LT120 jaw plant, which is available in either hydraulic or electric-driven versions, marked LT120 and LT120E respectively.

Following the success of the HP4 and HP5 models, Metso have broadened the range with the new Nordberg HP3 cone crusher. This mid-range unit specifically addresses customer requirements for large capacity, ease of operation and a high reduction ratio.
