METSO have recently inaugurated a factory expansion scheme that is setto double production capacity at their crusher manufacturing facilitiesin Tianjin, China.

The expanded facilities comprise more than 3,000 sq m ofmanufacturing space and a new office building, allowing the company’scurrent portfolio of crushers to be extended to include new jaw andcone crusher models. The factory will also start producing screens andfeeders.

In addition to the Chinese and Asian markets, the Tianjin factoryserves Metso’s mining and construction customers on a global basis, andthe company says the expansion will strengthen the facility’s positionas one of the main manufacturing units in Metso’s Construction businessline.

‘As the expansion has allowed us to relocate our offices to newpremises outside the factory, we are implementing a new plant layoutthat will boost the efficiency of our manufacturing operations,’ saidJuhani Honkanen, plant manager of the Tianjin factory. ‘The effect onunit numbers will be significant – we’re talking about the potentialfor several hundred new units each year.

‘Also, we can now add additional crusher models to our manufacturingschedules. The present scope of small and medium-size Nordberg C-Seriesjaw and Nordberg GP-Series cone crushers will be extended to includelarger models. New products such as the Nordberg TK-Series feeders andNordberg CVB screens are also being added to the Tianjin manufacturingplan.’

Metso first began manufacturing crushers in Tianjin 10 years ago inrented premises covering 1,700 sq m. Three years later, in 2002, aMetso-owned factory covering more than 4,000 sq m was opened.
