LafargeHolcim sign bolt-on acquisition in Greece

Halyps aggregate operation

Realignment of HeidelbergCement’s Greek business marks next step in company’s portfolio optimization

HERACLES Group, part of LafargeHolcim, have signed an agreement with Halyps Domia Ylika SA, part of HeidelbergCement, to acquire their Mandra-based aggregates business – one of the largest in Greece – and two ready-mix concrete plants in Athens for an undisclosed sum.

LafargeHolcim say this bolt-on acquisition, their fifth in 2021, will strengthen Heracles Group’s position to support Athens’ thriving metropolitan area and key infrastructure projects with sustainable building solutions.

Miljan Gutovic, LafargeHolcim’s region head for EMEA, commented: ‘I am excited about the opportunities and growth prospects of this acquisition in the Attica region of central Greece. It will provide additional support towards our net-zero ambition with our leading range of sustainable building solutions such as ECOPact green concrete.’

Dr Dominik von Achten, chairman of the managing board of HeidelbergCement, said: ‘We are pleased with the successful signing of the transaction in Greece. After the divestment of the Kuwait business, the realignment in Greece is the next step in our portfolio optimization as part of our Beyond 2020 strategy.’

HeidelbergCement will now focus on their core business in Greece and continue cement production through their subsidiary Halyps Cement.
