Lafarge drop Redland name

1 January 2001 saw the demise of the once ubiquitous Redland name as Lafarge Redland Aggregates Ltd began trading as Lafarge Aggregates Ltd.

The change comes more than three years after Paris-based Lafarge acquired Redland Aggregates for £1.8 billion, and according to managing director Ian Reid, now is the right time to fully adopt the Lafarge name in the UK.

'Lafarge have grown to become an established name for construction materials in the UK, and this change will help to reinforce Lafarge's profile in all our business areas,' he said.

As well as aggregates, the Redland prefix will also be dropped from the company's other three construction brands - Readymix, Concrete Products, and Contracting.
