Lafarge Cement wields the axe at Westbury

Contracting demand and rising energy prices have been blamed by Lafarge Cement as it announced the mothballing of a kiln and two cement mills at its Westbury Works in Wiltshire.

Reduced to a single kiln and two mills, the works will also lose around 65 jobs because of the cutting back on production, which is around half the current workforce.

This is one of a few sites expected to be mothballed by the Lafarge Group in the UK over the coming months. It told MQR today it was monitoring each of its operations closely.
