Komatsu launch PC490LC-10 hydraulic excavator

Komatsu PC490LC-10

Marubeni-Komatsu Ltd have introduced the PC490LC-10 hydraulic excavator, key features of which centre on reduced fuel consumption and better operator comfort, with improved efficiency and enhanced serviceability to maximize productivity and reduce operating costs.

Weighing up to 49 tonnes, a 4% increase compared with the PC450LC, the PC490LC-10 is powered by a 359hp (268kW) EU Stage IIIB emission-certified Komatsu SAA6D125 engine which uses an advanced electronic control system to manage air flow rate, fuel injection, combustion parameters and after-treatment functions to optimize performance, reduce emissions and provide advanced diagnostic capability.

A hydraulically actuated Komatsu variable-geometry turbocharger (KVGT) and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve deliver up to a 5% reduction in fuel consumption, while the active/passive Komatsu diesel particulate filter (KDPF) is designed to function primarily in the ‘passive’ mode, incinerating most trapped particulates without interrupting machine operations. The regeneration system keeps the operator aware of its status and has a manual override integrated into the monitor panel.

The PC490LC-10 is equipped with the latest KOMTRAX technology, which sends machine operating information to a secure website utilizing wireless technology. Data such as operating hours, location, cautions and maintenance alerts are relayed to the web application for analysis.

With a reinforced revolving frame equipped with an additional 450kg of counterweight, the PC490LC-10 has up to 10% more lifting power and provides greater lateral stability without sacrificing fast cycle times. The operator can select to run the machine in ‘Lift’ mode, to raise the hydraulic pressure and achieve maximum lifting force. Variable matching technology allows the engine speed to adjust itself based on the machine load throughout each individual working cycle.

The PC490LC-10 is available with various heavy-duty features, such as a reinforced centre frame and swing circle, an optional top and front guard and a short 6.7m boom specifically designed to enhance lift capacity and productivity in tough loading applications. Moreover, the new dedicated undercarriage has stronger crawler frames, carrier rollers, idlers, drive sprocket, final drive and track chains.

Specifically designed for hydraulic excavators, the new ROPS-compliant cab features a fully air-suspended operator control station with an adjustable high-back heated seat for maximum operator comfort. A new high-resolution 7in LCD monitor allows the operator to select up to six working modes – Power Mode, Economy Mode, Heavy Lift Mode, Breaker Mode, Attachment Power Mode and Attachment Economy Mode – to match machine performance to the application.

For ease of maintenance, routine service points on the PC490LC-10 are quickly accessible from ground level, while handrails surround the upper structure and access steps are provided in convenient positions to allow safe and quick access to the engine bay. The radiator and hydraulic oil cooler are mounted side by side, making it simpler to maintain and service both components, while the air-conditioning condenser is hinged for easy access. The machine is equipped with Komatsu EMMS (Equipment Management Monitoring System), which has enhanced diagnostic features that give operators and technicians greater monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities.
