Komatsu digs deep for Tarmac

THE longest-reach Komatsu excavator operating in the UK is helping Tarmac Western to achieve a sand and gravel yield of 150 tonnes/h from a wet-pit dig in Herefordshire.

The PC600-6 excavator is equipped with a bespoke 25m arm that allows Tarmac to dig below water to a depth of 13m at their Shobdon sand and gravel pit near Leominster.

The machine’s suppliers, Marubeni-Komatsu, say the PC600-6’s Hydraumind system allows smooth, precise movement of the boom and arm, while the dedicated counterweights ensure a stable base machine, which is vital in long-reach applications such as Shobdon.
