Ken Riley retires

AT the end of 2006 Ken Riley stepped down as chairman of EPIC Training and E2 Holdings (parent company of EPIC and EMP Awarding Body), a role he had undertaken for the last five years as an extension of his responsibilities as a director of Tarmac.

Mr Riley’s career in the quarrying and contracting industry spanned 50 years and this milestone was marked by the award of an Institute of Quarrying long-service medal, presented by Tarmac’s aggregates division director, Terry Last, at a function in honour of Tarmac’s departing chief executive officer, Robbie Robertson.

David Sharman, corporate services director with Hanson, takes over Ken Riley’s role in EPIC/E2 Holdings, which includes responsibility for representing the extractives sector on the board of Proskills, the Sector Skills Council for the manufacturing and processing industries.

At the same event, Clive James, well known as director of Tarmac’s building products division, also received a medal to mark his 40 years’ service to the industry.
