Institute of Quarrying to champion professional development at 10th Dubai Mining Show

THE Institute of Quarrying (IQ) will join a global line-up of mining and quarrying representatives at The Mining Show, incorporating the Quarrying & Construction Materials Show, in Dubai from 2–3 October 2017.

Taking place at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, The Mining Show is the largest mining and quarrying conference for the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia and South Asia, attracting more than 2,000 attendees.

It is organized in partnership with the Institute of Quarrying, United Arab Emirates Ministry of Energy, Fujairah Natural Resources Corporation and Stevin Rock.

The Institute of Quarrying’s head of educational development, Julian Smallshaw, is one of the guest speakers and his presentation, ‘Investing in People’, is scheduled to take place at 14.50 on the first day of the show.

Mr Smallshaw explained: ‘Investing in the continuous professional development of your people is key to unlocking their latent potential. My presentation focuses on the importance of great leadership to inspire great employees, and how investing in developing the skills of your employees inspires innovation.

‘I’ll also be looking at the challenge of addressing international standards for people management and how the Institute of Quarrying is perfectly positioned to help.’

As well as delivering his presentation, Mr Smallshaw will also assume the role of chair during the show, alongside Anthony Benham, chief operating officer of International Geoscience Services.

Now in its 10th year, The Mining Show has grown to be the only event with a geographical reach covering the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia and South Asia.

It addresses the key challenges facing operational quarries, including maintaining a license to operate, production efficiency, digitally transforming operations and environmental responsibility.
