IQ Annual Conference

Glasgow Science Centre

‘Essential Investment and Resources for the Future’ is the theme of this year’s symposium in Glasgow

THE Institute of Quarrying’s Annual Conference will be hosted by the Scottish branch, assisted by MPA Scotland, in the IMAX theatre at the Glasgow Science Centre (pictured) on Friday 30 November 2012.

The theme of the symposium, ‘Essential Investment and Resources for the Future’, is based around the building of the new Forth Road Crossing – currently the largest construction project in the UK.

To set the tone of the conference, the keynote address will be given by Fergus Ewing, Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Tourism. He will be followed by John Fraser from Transport Scotland, who will give ‘A view of the Forth Replacement Crossing’.

Murray Provan, HM Inspector of Health and Safety (Construction) will talk about ‘HSE  Construction Division Priorities’, while Dougie Millar, materials and QA advisor with Transport Scotland, will look at ‘Research for the Future’.

Professor Sean Smith of Edinburgh Napier University will start the afternoon session with a talk on ‘Aggregates: A Natural Strategic Resource’.

Finally, to round off the conference, the Scottish branch has secured the services of Professor Iain Stewart, Professor of Geosciences Communication at Plymouth University and well known BBC TV presenter, who will present the triennial McPherson Memorial Lecture.
