IQ and IAT Fellows Lunch and Student Awards

IET London: Savoy Place

Historic IET London: Savoy Place to host this year’s joint annual event on Friday 28 October

THE annual IQ and IAT Fellows Lunch and Student Awards returns to London this year, with the historic IET London: Savoy Place set to host more than 100 senior industry professionals and special guests of the Institute of Quarrying (IQ) and Institute of Asphalt Technology (IAT) on Friday 28 October.

IET London: Savoy Place has been home to the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) since 1909; the site on which it now stands has an interesting 800-year-long palatial history dating back to the 13th century. The venue has spectacular views overlooking London and will provide an inspirational environment for this prestigious celebration and networking event.

Among the special guests will be award-winning students from the University of Derby’s Centre for Mineral Products. Each year top-performing students from the University are presented with an award from the Institute of Quarrying and Institute of Asphalt Technology, in recognition of their outstanding achievement and continuous commitment to the mineral extractives industry.

IQ chief executive officer James Thorne said: ‘The Fellows Lunch and Student Awards is a prestigious event that we look forward to hosting each year. With an address from our new President, Viv Russell, senior industry figures from across the mineral products sector and our special guests from the University of Derby Centre for Mineral Products are invited to enjoy an afternoon of networking, celebration, food, and drinks at this historic venue. It’s not to be missed.’

Lyle Andrew, executive director at the Institute of Asphalt Technology, added: ‘On behalf of everyone at the Institute of Asphalt Technology, we look forward to hosting the Fellows Lunch and Student Awards alongside the Institute of Quarrying and raising a glass to the industry, as well as applauding the achievements of future industry leaders from the University of Derby Centre for Mineral Products.’

The site on which IET London: Savoy Place now stands has many historical ties to royalty and historical figures, including Henry III, Eleanor of Provence, Edmund Plantagenet, and Henry VII. The modern interior and architectural elements of the building have undergone frequent changes over the years to offer a fully functioning state-of-the-art event venue.

IQ Fellows are invited to book their tickets online or by contacting Debbie White, IQ membership officer at: debbie.white@quarrying.org; or tel: 0115 972 9995. The deadline for bookings is Friday 14 October 2022.
