International award for Pioneer

Three Pioneer UK quarries have won the Group's 1999 International Directors' Award for Best Environmental Performance. A further special award also went to Pioneer UK for their environmental video 'A question of balance'.

Representatives of Tam's Loup Quarry at Harthill, Lanarkshire, Coldstones Quarry near Pateley Bridge, North Yorkshire, and Durnford Quarry near Bristol, received the award from their Australian-based group managing director and chief executive officer, Dr John Schubert, at a special ceremony in Bristol at the end of January. The special award for the video programme was also presented to members of the production team who received it on behalf of the UK company. A perpetual trophy to be kept for one year, and a cheque for A$5,000 to be split three ways between local charities selected by the winning quarries, was also presented.
