Industrial gearbox repair service can fix all types

Fast and efficient gear box repairs from SEW Eurodrive

SEW Eurodrive can repair any make of gearbox, regardless of manufacturer or the age of the unit. The company is even able to repair obsolete gearboxes by reverse engineering component parts that may no longer be supported by the original manufacturer. Each repaired unit leaves the factory as good as new and is supplied with a 12-month warranty.

At their factory in Normanton SEW Eurodrive have all the latest plant, equipment and tooling to be able to repair gearboxes weighing up to 10 tonnes. And that capability is set to rise to 20 tonnes after a planned move to a larger, purpose-built facility this year.

When a unit arrives at SEW Eurodrive for repair it is quickly inspected and a detailed report with close-up photography of worn or damaged parts is sent to the customer with a quotation. Service engineers use microscopic cameras that can show detailed damage to gearbox components.

Each unit is given a unique identification number and all the related documents are scanned and saved to provide full traceability. This is particularly useful when customers have recurring faults. Engineers can look back at previous repairs and pin-point similar failures making it possible to design out the cause.

Additionally, SEW Eurodrive’s technical department provides route-cause analysis for failures and CAD drawings for modifications and retro fits. Whenever modifications are made, or bespoke parts manufactured, full engineering drawings are produced. With manufacturer’s know-how, the very latest tooling and equipment, SEW Eurodrive say that a gearbox repaired by them is as good as or better than new, and is supported by a 12-month warranty.

Every repair is tested before it leaves the factory, typically covering stator resistance, oil leaks and noise. The company also has in-house facilities to provide load testing when required.

According to Karl Rigg, SEW Eurodrive’s UK service manager, the company’s repair service is about speed and efficiency as well as quality: ‘24-hour call out and fast turnaround is something we’re well known for. Typically turnaround time to repair an industrial gearbox is around five to seven days, but when a customer has an emergency we can move very quickly indeed. Every day we will repair someone’s gearbox in just a few hours.’
