IMS crusher for Japan

IMS Engineering are currently manufacturing a primary gyratory crusher which will be used to process material for the construction of Kansai International Airport in Japan.

The airport, which is to be constructed in Osaka Bay, requires 70% of an area of mountainous terrain to be quarried and processed. Because of the size and complexity of the crusher, IMS Engineering and Kawasaki Heavy Industries have entered into a joint venture for the manufacture of the gyratory unit. The R7 million (£0.67 million) order was secured on the basis of the successful local manufacturing and commissioning of similar equipment for Orapa and Jwaneng Mines.

The gyratory crusher will handle feed material of around 2m x 1.4m x 1m, producing a final product size not exceeding 300mm at a rate of 5,000 tonnes/h. It is estimated that the entire project will involve the conveying and processing of 150 million m3 of rock, which will ultimately be placed offshore via ships with bottom-opening hatches.

The crusher will be used on the project for a total of 60 months, during which time it will operate 12h a day, six days a week. The crusher has been designed in such a way that it will not require any replacement parts for the full duration of the project.
