High-temperature capacitance level probes

In asphalt plants non-contact methods of level measurement can be prone to problems due to locational constraints. At Tarmac Central’s Mancetter plant in Warwickshire Endress+Hauser’s high-temperature capacitance level probes have been used to solve this problem.

Six probes have been installed, each one positioned away from the infill to avoid any potential damage. Designed to handle temperatures up to 400°C, the easy to set up probes remove the need for complicated programming and reduce costly commissioning time.

Kevin Alsop, site production maintenance supervisor, commented: ‘Since installation, Endress+Hauser’s high-temperature capacitance level probes have allowed us to maximize production, with an approximate 8% increase in available mixing time, by reducing the need to clean out over-feed from the bins. Waste is reduced by approximately 50% a month, giving a possible revenue increase as a result. There is also a reduction of around 200 vehicles movements a year on site, so we have a safe and more efficient unit.’
