Hanson UK achieve ISO 50001:2011 certification

Company secures energy-management system accreditation across all business lines

HANSON UK have gained ISO 50001:2011 energy-management system certification across their entire business, making them one of the first heavy building materials suppliers to secure the accreditation across all business lines and reflecting their commitment to achieving continual improvements in energy performance, efficiency, use and consumption.

The certification also puts the company ahead of schedule in complying with the requirements of the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS), which comes into force in December.

The ISO 50001:2011 energy-management system certification for the extraction, production and supply of heavy building materials applies across the whole of Hanson UK – including the company’s marine dredging, contracting, fleet transport and administrative offices.

Hanson’s head of sustainability, Paul Lacey (pictured), said: ‘This certification forms an important part of our drive to embed energy improvements across the business and demonstrates our commitment to reducing energy use, maximizing carbon efficiencies, delivering products and services with lower embodied carbon, and supporting national and European energy- and carbon-reduction targets.

‘Having an energy-management system that meets the standard also represents a significant step towards achieving our own challenging 2020 sustainability goals.’
