Hanson Contracting recognized for collaborative approach

Business becomes first national surfacing contractor to achieve recently launched BS 11000 standard

HANSON Contracting have become the first national surfacing contractor to achieve the BS 11000 standard for Collaborative Business Relationships – just six months after the launch of the new standard.

The prestigious international award acknowledges organizations’ initiatives to create sustainable relationships, company competitiveness and enhanced performance. It also recognizes the importance of getting the best out of business relationships by sharing resources and opportunities.

To be fully accredited, organizations have to demonstrate that they can accurately assess both themselves and potential partners on cultural suitability, as well as on more traditional, technical and commercial attributes.

Hanson Contracting’s major projects director, Denis Curran, said: ‘Our involvement in pioneering partnering contracts, such as the Dorset Highways Partnership, the Highways Agency’s Construction Management and the A19 DBFO for Autolink, means that BS 11000 was a natural fit for our business.

‘To have achieved certification in such a short time demonstrates that the standard’s principles of creating partnerships and adding value were already firmly embedded within our business.’

As well as visiting Hanson Contracting’s regional office at Chipping Sodbury, near Bristol, the assessors looked at their Dorset Strategic Highways Partnership, including visiting Corfe Mullen to see the integrated partnership in action on a surfacing project.
