Hanly Bros choose Extec

Founded in 1972, the Hanly Brothers group of companies, based in Laragan, Co. Roscommon, were originally involved in plant hire and civil engineering contracting but later diversified into quarrying. Today Hanly Brothers produce over 1 million tonnes of crushed aggregates a year and are the largest suppliers of aggregate materials to the counties of Roscommon, Leitrim and Longford.

As well as aggregates, the company also manufacture concrete blocks and ready-mixed concrete. To provide a competitive edge in this highly competitive market place, the company's batching plant has recently undergone a complete renovation with the installation of a sophisticated computer-controlled batching process run from the head office, while the block yard has been fitted with a new automatic block machine and automatic block handler.

When choosing crushing equipment to complement this investment Hanly opted for two Extec Mega-Bite tracked primary jaw crushers and a recently launched tracked impactor. With material being worked at three different levels in the quarry, the crushing equipment needed to be fully mobile, hard-wearing and capable of achieving production peaks of 4,000 tonnes a day. From their initial demonstration, Hanly were satisfied that the Mega-Bite would not only allow them to maximize quarry production, but would also be well suited to their civil engineering activities. The Mega-Bites' ability to be easily transported from site to site, and to be fully operational within minutes, has led to their use on a number of projects with Hanly's construction and road contracting businesses.

As a result of their success with this equipment, Hanly have recently placed another order with Extec for a second tracked impact crusher together with two Turbotrac screening systems.
