Green light for UK’s longest zip line at Penrhyn Quarry

Penrhyn Quarry

Environmental firm SLR Consulting have assisted Tree Top Adventures in securing planning permission for the longest zip line in Europe at Penrhyn Quarry in Bethesda, North Wales.

The zip line will be 1,600m long, 213m high and will pass over the existing lake in the former slate quarry workings at Penrhyn. A short zip line 450m in length will also be constructed.

SLR were commissioned to prepare supporting documentation after objections were received from Countryside Council for Wales (CCW), Gwynedd Archaeological Trust (GAT) and Gwynedd Council.

SLR UK principal John Hill said: ‘With statutory consultees raising objections regarding the potential adverse effects of the proposals, we worked with Tree Top Adventures to prepare several environmental reports to support the planning application addressing their concerns.’

Following the submission of the supporting documentation, planning permission was granted unanimously by members of the planning committee.

Sean Taylor, managing director of Tree Top Adventures and Zip World Ltd, said: ‘SLR’s approach ensured that the planning process ran smoothly and we are thrilled with this addition to our facilities, which will attract around 30,000 visitors a year to the area, providing a much-needed boost to the local economy.’
