Evolution of on-board weighing continues

Since its introduction as a basic weighing system to provide the weight of material in a loader bucket, the on-board weighing system has evolved into a very effective management tool that can save time, money and resources. The ease of use and accuracy of such systems mean they have become an essential component of many wheel loaders.

Today’s on-board weighing systems are vastly different to the early models. For example, they can now provide ‘legal for trade’ printouts, which eliminate the need for long trips to the weighbridge from remote locations, while modern telemetry systems allow loaders to be appointed specific tasks from the central control office, with the weight information sent back to the office in real time.

In addition, there is no longer any need for truck drivers to use hand signals to tell the loader driver how much material they need. And getting the weight right first time means that the truck drivers no longer have to undertake the frustrating task of topping up or unloading materials. Moreover, barcode and RF reading eliminates the need for time-consuming data entry by the loader driver. This information is recorded automatically in the format required and can be used by the quarry operator to keep full and accurate records of material movements.
