Epiroc HB 7000 DP for Son Amat

Epiroc HB 7000 DP hydraulic breaker

Seven-tonne hydraulic breaker provides a successful solution for limestone quarry on Mallorca

SON Amat are major aggregate suppliers for the construction industry on the Balearic island of Mallorca, operating one of the island’s largest and most important quarries, close to Palma de Mallorca.

Following a thorough analysis of the conditions in the limestone quarry, it was concluded that a 7-tonne Epiroc HB 7000 DP hydraulic breaker would be the best option for material extraction at this particular site. Supplied by the Epiroc Iberia team and local dealers COHIMAOP AG, the giant breaker offers a more flexible solution than drilling and blasting and achieves high output rates.

‘We were very careful when it came to putting together the right set-up for this particular application, as we wanted to achieve the best possible result,’ said Manuel Morcillo, managing director of COHIMAP. ‘The HB 7000 DP is impressive when dealing with the toughest rock and is undoubtedly the best tool for this project.’

Among other things, the HB 7000 DP is used to open up previously unworked areas in the quarry. This is a major challenge that requires a machine that can handle both limestone and its natural weathering.

According to Son Amat, the HB 7000 DP has not disappointed and has met all expectations. It has a high impact force and optimal per-minute impact rate, which increases productivity. It also works comparatively quietly and with low vibration levels.

Offering models suitable for carriers from 22 tonnes up to 140 tonnes, the HB breaker range features the exclusive Intelligent Protection System (IPS), which combines Epiroc’ AutoControl and StartSelect functions, and automatically adapts the working method of the breaker to suit any working conditions.

Thanks to the IPS system, which does not require any manual intervention, an HB hydraulic breaker can be positioned in the fastest and most precise way, ineffective blows that could damage the attachment are prevented, and operating time is optimized with no interruptions in the workflow.

Epiroc HB breakers also include the Contilube II auto-greasing system, the PowerAdapt integrated pressure control valve and the Vibrosilenced-Plus system, which reduces noise and vibration. In addition, the EnergyRecovery system uses the recoil force of the piston for energy recovery, whilst DustProtector II provides additional protection against dust and rock particles.
