Environmentally friendly asphalt plant

In August 2004 NCC Roads A/S of Lierskogen, Norway, took delivery of a new Danish-built asphalt plant, described as the most advanced and environmentally friendly asphalt plant in Scandinavia.

Supplied by KVM International A/S, the plant layout was designed in close co-operation with the customer, exploiting the combined knowledge, expertise and experience of NCC and KVM in asphalt plant operation and maintenance. This initiated a number of solutions and fulfilled the primary goal to supply a flexible production unit that fully complied with the customer’s demands.

All the functions of the fully automated 240 tonnes/h asphalt plant are managed and monitored by a control system that provides maximum traceability. The plant incorporates a number of key features designed to reduce its impact both on the local environment and, more specifically, on the operational personnel.

These features include: a gas drying process; insulated hot-aggregate bins; energy-efficient, inverter-controlled motors for minimum power consumption; a highly effective, low-energy-consumption bag filter that meets the most stringent environmental emission requirements; a mixing tower focused on accurate weighing and homogenic mixing; mixed-material storage silos with low levels of heat loss and material segregation; and a cold recycled asphalt product (RAP) facility.
