Early reverse warning system

According to HSE statistics, more than a quarter of accidents involving vehicles at work occur when the vehicle is reversing. To help prevent such incidents, many warning devices are available, such as beepers and recorded voice messages, all activated by selecting reverse gear. Now, however, a new system has been introduced that can be operated by the driver some distance before coming to a stop, giving other vehicles, road users, pedestrians etc ample notice of his/her intention to reverse.

At the heart of the Reversalert system is a high-visibility LED flashing display housed in a heavy-duty rubber box measuring 450mm x 280mm x 70mm, which is mounted to the rear of the vehicle. Two versions with different warning messages are available, either: ‘STOP, VEHICLE REVERSING’ or ‘DANGER, VEHICLE REVERSING’. Once activated, the unit operates continuously with automatic cut-out after 2min; the device can also be switched off manually at any time. Alternatively, for frequent use, the unit can be wired into the reverse light circuit, illuminating the display while reverse gear is selected.

Reversalert, which complies with CISPR specifications for Class A equipment, is totally waterproof and made from rugged materials suitable for use in arduous environments. The device can be easily fitted by a competent auto electrician and is supplied as a kit consisting of the display unit, a dashboard-mounted switch and all cables and connectors. Mounting brackets can also be supplied if required.
