Dutch success for Sandvik Construction

Demonstration of Sandvik QI341 Prisec HSI impact crusher in recycling applications receives positive feedback in Holland

ACCORDING to Sandvik, their QI341 Prisec HSI impactor has proven to be an essential machine for recycling applications in the Netherlands, following recent demonstrations by the Kuiken Group.

Kuiken, who joined Sandvik Construction as a distributor for mobile crushing and screening products in 2012, are a renowned full service distribution company in the Netherlands, specializing in construction equipment for material handling and recycling.

The plant – which comes with a hanging screen – offers a closed-circuit crushing system that is said to be more cost effective and efficient as the impactor can produce a calibrated product without the need for further machines.

The impactor’s compact size and ease of mobility also make it ideal for use in recycling applications in urban areas where space is limited. The QI341 can be easily transported by a low loader, moved on to the next location and quickly set up for the next crushing application.

During the demonstration, the impact crusher was fed 0-600mm recycled concrete material at a rate of 190-200 tonnes/h. The crushed product was being used primarily as recycled sub-base material for road construction. In addition, a steel bar present in the feed was recycled after being discharged by an overband magnet.

The pre-screen process was completed through a highly efficient double-deck pre-screen with a high operating speed and an aggressive throw for superior separation. On this application, the end-user utilized a 60mm punched plate on the top deck accompanied by 40mm square mesh for the bottom deck.

All remaining material was passed down into the crushing chamber to Sandvik’s patented CI411 Prisec HSI impact crusher, which operated at 630 rev/min (shaft speed). The unique design of this crusher means it can work as either a primary or secondary machine with the simple adjustment of curtain shaft positions.

The crusher chamber had to be in a primary position with the first curtain at 180mm and second at 50-60mm. This curtain adjustment allows the machine to achieve excellent reduction ratios but also provided an innovative solution for crusher blockages as the curtains can be hydraulically raised allowing the blockage to pass.

The hanging screen system is a single-deck, two bearing screen box which, on this application, featured a 55mm square mesh allowing the machine to put a sized product on the ground.

The oversize product can be either returned or stockpiled using a hydraulically controlled slew ring system on the recirc conveyor. Since its demonstration in the Netherlands, Sandvik say the QI341 Prisec impactor has continued to be a popular model in the market due to its high performance and ability to produce a finished, calibrated product from a single machine.
