Dust-suppresion solutions from Major Equipment

New, tougher EU and UK environmental legislation means it is now imperative for quarry operators to reduce and control workers’ exposure to dust inhalation.

One of the simplest ways of addressing dusty environments is to stop dust from getting into the air in the first place. For example, where there is regular traffic, water sprayers and wheel washers should be used to keep a busy quarry roadway damp, thereby preventing the dust from being thrown into the air by trucks and other vehicles.

Renowned for their high-quality dust-suppression solutions, Major Equipment have positively responded to the demands for reliable, efficient and compliant equipment by introducing the Road Blaster – which can be combined with two other Major Equipment products – to provide highly efficient ‘one-pass’ cleaning and sweeping.

Removing even the most difficult compacted mud and gravel, high-powered water jets are delivered from the ‘blaster bar’ by a centrifugal pump that feeds a series of nozzles to produce an effective spray for power washing roads without flooding.

The water jets can be directed to either side, forcing compacted gravel, sand or mud into the gutter, while the tanker’s hydraulic height adjust allows for close contact with the road for maximum impact. The Road Blaster comes with a wide range of features, including a full road lighting kit and a quick-coupling connector for fast refilling.

Complementing the Road Blaster is the optional Water Spinner Dust Suppressor, which is fitted to the rear of the tanker. This unit atomizes and fans out water droplets, creating a fine mist that spreads out evenly behind the tanker to keep road dust down.

Completing the trio of dust-suppression products from Major is the 8000 Road Sweeper. Located on a four-point linkage to the rear of the tanker, the sweeper can be swiveled 30° from left to right, pushing debris to the desired side. This patented floating brush system, aided by an active suspension system, independently follows the ground contour to ensure a clean sweep at all times.

‘Cleaner, safer roads and environmental compliance are the focus of our new products,’ said Major Equipment’s managing director, John Murphy. ‘We have expanded our expertise, which is designing and manufacturing tankers, as well as customizing them for plant-hire companies and contractors in the aggregates and construction industries.’
