Downstream development at Bardon Aggregates

BARDON Aggregates’ Merklands Quay asphalt plant has been moved to a new location on the river Clyde in order to make way for Glasgow’s multi-million pound harbour-regeneration scheme. Formerly located within the Glasgow Harbour site, the 125-tonne plant was dismantled and rebuilt in its current location at South Street, some two miles downriver, to help make way for the £500 million scheme.

The relocation project took six weeks from start to finish, during which customers were served by other business units across Scotland’s central belt in order to maintain a continuous supply.

Strategically located close to Glasgow city centre, the new Merklands Quay asphalt plant has an overall aggregate storage capacity of 2,000 tonnes and a total hot-storage capacity of 200 tonnes. The plant is capable of producing 100 tonnes/h and offers a complete range of standard macadams, SMAs and proprietary asphalts to both in-house and European standards.

In adition, as part of the relocation project, the plant has been upgraded in line with the latest environmental and quality standards.
