Doosan launch new Stage IIIB-compliant excavator

Latest DX380LC-3 crawler excavator offers high-performance and increased fuel efficiency

DOOSAN have introduced their new Stage IIIB-compliant crawler excavator designed for higher productivity and improved fuel efficiency in the 34- to 42-tonne market segment. The latest machine offers several features as standard, including a new joggle/shuttle control – a worldwide exclusive feature on the next generation of Doosan excavators.

The DX380LC-3 is powered by a Doosan DL08K common-rail, six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, which meets Stage IIIB engine-emission regulations through the use of EGR and DPF after-treatment technologies.

The 286hp engine runs at 1,800 rev/min and delivers 5% more power and 8% more torque than the previous model. According to Doosan, the excavator offers a significant increase (+22%) in the productivity (cubic metre) to fuel consumption ratio.

The overall reduction in fuel consumption is due to a combination of features in the new excavator design. These include: lower engine speed; improved cooling efficiency with the oil cooler separated from the radiator; the new ECO gauge providing fuel consumption guidance for the operator; improved main control valves reducing energy loss and increasing efficiency; and additional sensors for improved electronic management of pump/engine/mcv.

In addition, a new hydraulic system with a new electro-hydraulic control minimizes pressure loss through the main control valve, thereby utilizing engine power more effectively, maximizing pump usage and delivering more comfort, smoothness and accuracy. The operating weight of the DX380LC-3 excavator has been increased by 3.5 % to 39.2 tonnes and the counterweight has risen by 300kg to 7,400 kg. A new travel device in the machine has increased drawbar pull by 15% to 36.9 tonnes, producing a 15% increase in swing torque.

A 5% increase in hydraulic pressure to 350-370 bar improves performance with higher lifting capabilities, faster cycle times and higher breakout forces. At 6m reach at ground level, front lifting capacity has been boosted by 15%, while lifting capacity over the side is increased by 3%.

The arm/bucket digging forces have been increased by up to 6%. Overall, the hydraulic system of the new generation DX380LC-3 improves performance and productivity.

Providing superior stability, durability and robustness for extra tough applications, the heavy-duty undercarriage on the DX380LC-3 excavator is the same as that used in the larger 40-tonne-class DX420LC model with reinforced track links, track springs and sprockets, as well as a more robust boom and arm with reinforced bushings. As a result, the service life of the machine has been extended significantly.

A new ROPS- and OPG-certified cab offers more space for the operator. Direct control through the joysticks, which have new proportional thumb wheel switches and integrated buttons, provides precise, proportional control of attachments.

A new 7in high-quality visual control console offers an attractive display and excellent functionality for the operator. All functions can be controlled both from the instrument panel as well as via the new jog/shuttle control next to the joystick, a unique feature exclusive on the latest Doosan excavators.

Also new on the DX380LC-3 is a high-quality, heated air suspension seat designed to reduce operator fatigue, while a newly developed cab suspension system helps to cut vibration by 20% and reduce cab noise to as much as 71dB(A).
