Doosan DX420LC excavator wins quarry battle

A Doosan DX420LC excavator has been purchased by Oberrheinische Baustoff GmbH (ORB) following a demanding three-month competitive selection process to find a new machine for the company’s granite quarry in Rickenbach in the Black Forest region of Germany. The excavator was supplied by F. Schünke, authorized Doosan dealers based at Wehr.

With the previous excavator at the quarry definitely showing its age, ORB invited various manufacturers to provide excavator models to compete in the three-month quarrying test to find a replacement.

The Doosan DX420LC excavator was the clear winner at the end of the test. Markus Blum, a machine operator at ORB was very impressed by the performance of the machine working on the hard Black Forest granite. But he found the fuel consumption of the DX420LC even more impressive, the lowest in the test and up to 35% less than one of the other machines in the group. Markus Blum was also happy with the driver comfort offered by the excavator. The spacious cab, good visibility, comfortable seat and air conditioning provide the best conditions, allowing Markus to work comfortably for hours at a time without a break.

The platform for the combination of productivity and efficiency in the DX420LC is the common-rail diesel engine, which provides 218kW of power at 1,800 rev/min and offers a maximum torque of 1373Nm at 1,300 rev/min. The common-rail technology and four valves per cylinder optimize combustion and minimize emissions. When combined with the new e-EPOS system (electronic power optimizing system), which communicates directly with the engine-management system via a controller area network (CAN), this results in significantly reduced fuel consumption.

ORB places a high value on the advice and after-sales service available from F. Schünke to support the DX420LCR excavator. As the local authorized Doosan dealers, F. Schünke rent and sell Doosan- and Bobcat-branded construction equipment as well as attachment and accessory ranges from other reputable manufacturers. ORB and Schünke have previously worked together as customer and supplier through the rental business at Schünke.

Norbert Buchheit, managing director of ORB, commented: ‘In addition to the performance capabilities of the machine and their proximity, Schünke was chosen for the positive experience we have had with regard to the dependability and service offered by the company.’
