DETI Minister commends waste-management sector

Jonathan Bell MLA praises ongoing efforts to improve safety across the waste and recycling industry
DEPARTMENT of Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister Jonathan Bell was invited to speak and present at last month’s Ambassador Awards organized by the Waste Industry Safety and Health Forum for Northern Ireland (WISHNI).
Presenting awards to six local employers in recognition of their work in promoting safety across the waste-management and recycling sectors, Mr Bell (pictured left) commented: ‘I congratulate the WISHNI forum and this year’s Ambassadors on their important contributions in helping to improve safety standards across the industry. It is encouraging to note the support offered by a range of organizations, all with the primary aim of promoting health and safety best practice across the waste and recycling industry.’
Professor Alan Woodside OBE, chair of WISHNI, added: ‘We have continued to provide support to the waste industry by developing and sharing good practice across the industry. The awards has been a valuable contribution in achieving this aim. I look forward to seeing our new Ambassadors make further positive changes within the industry and I would support them in their efforts.’
The winners of this year’s WISHNI Ambassadors Awards Programme were: Belfast City Council; Bryson Recycling; Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council; McKinstry Skip Hire Ltd; ReCon Waste Management Ltd; and River Ridge Recycling.
