CIWM chief executive officer to move on

Dr Colin Church

Dr Colin Church departs Chartered Institution of Wastes Management after two years in post

DR Colin Church, chief executive officer of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM), is moving on to a new role after two years in charge. He will leave at the end of September.

Dr Church, a former environmental quality director at Defra, joined CIWM in October 2016 and is moving to the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining as its new chief executive. Sarah Poulter, currently CIWM group director of membership and funding, will take on the role of interim CEO.

Dr Church’s departure to a new post away from CIWM will represent one of the shortest periods of tenure at the Institution. However, during his time in office he oversaw a radical restructuring of the Institution, which has been running at a financial loss over recent years, although it hopes to return to profit in 2018.

Other staff members are also understood to be leaving or have left the Institution with some redundancies being made in an effort to reduce overheads at CIWM.
