CEMEX join Corporate Leaders Group Europe

Sergio Menendez

Membership of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability’s CLG Europe to support path towards net zero

CEMEX have joined the Corporate Leaders Group Europe (CLG Europe), convened by the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership in support of a climate-neutral economy.

The company aims to deliver to all customers globally net-zero concrete by 2050 as part of its Future in Action strategy and is the first in the sector to set a target of at least 55% CO2 reduction by 2030 in its European operations.

In addition, CEMEX are working with architects, developers and local governments on urbanization solutions such as net-zero buildings, electric mobility infrastructure to support sustainability goals, circular solutions, and resilient buildings and infrastructure.

Sergio Menendez (pictured), president of CEMEX’s EMEA region, said: ‘With our Future in Action programme, we are committed to lead on the road to carbon neutrality and proud to join forces with the CISL’s Corporate Leaders Group Europe and other global companies to accelerate the decarbonization of the built environment. We look forward to working together with CLG Europe to help us all achieve our shared climate action goals in Europe.’

In the European context, where the EU is revising its climate and energy policy framework to achieve at least 55% net emissions reductions by 2030 and climate neutrality by 2050 at the latest, the company’s ambitious policies will have an important role to play in supporting policymakers and other businesses in stepping up climate ambition by leading by example.

Eliot Whittington, director of the Corporate Leaders Group Europe, said: ‘It is a privilege to welcome a major industrial business such as CEMEX into the Corporate Leaders Group Europe – demonstrating how the proactive business voice in support of more ambitious climate action is growing.

‘CEMEX have a strong track record of leadership on climate action, with a clear commitment to a net-zero future and experience of delivering on their existing climate targets. We are looking forward to working with them to support ambitious climate policies in Europe and beyond.’

CLG Europe has a secretariat provided by the Brussels office of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership and a cross-sectoral membership of influential European businesses working towards delivering climate neutrality.

CEMEX join existing members such as Anglian Water, Coca Cola, EDF, Ferrovial, Lloyds Banking Group, Microsoft, ROCKWOOL, Salesforce, Sky, Tesco, Thames Water, and Unilever.
